About HomeFix

  • HomeFix was developed by the Community Economic Defense Project in partnership with the Denver Metro Tenants’ Union and the Access to Justice Innovation Lab at the University of Colorado Law School. It was reviewed by lawyers licensed in Colorado.

  • HomeFix is completely free to use. We won’t ask you for any payment information at any time.

  • If you need help using HomeFix, you can call the CARE Center at (303) 838-1200. An agent can help you send a letter to your landlord.

If you have a technical problem when using HomeFix, please send an email to homefix-1@cedp.org.

  • HomeFix can help you get things fixed in your home when you’re having trouble getting your landlord to fix things on your own. With HomeFix:

    1. Your request is backed up by the law.

HomeFix writes a formal letter to your landlord reminding them of their legal duty to fix the problems in your home.

    2. Your landlord gets clear deadlines for repairs.

Without HomeFix, your landlord is more likely to ignore or delay needed repairs. HomeFix sets clear legal deadlines so your landlord knows exactly when they must fix the problem.

    3. You get a court-ready record.

HomeFix makes a record of the problems you’re having in your home, complete with photos, timelines, and descriptions. You’ll have strong evidence if you ever need to take legal action against your landlord.

    4. You show that you know your rights.

In your HomeFix letter, you show your landlord that you know your rights: your landlord must fix the problem by their deadline. HomeFix also tells your landlord it’s illegal to punish you for asking for repairs with rent hikes, eviction, or cutting services.

HomeFix is a digital tool that helps Colorado tenants write a letter to their landlord requesting repairs or maintenance. Answer a few questions about the problems in your home, and HomeFix can help you to give your landlord a deadline to fix the problem(s). You’ll also be able to get reminders about those deadlines and send reminders to your landlord.
